I Heart Agar the Wonderful

What is Agar?

Also known as Agar-agar, or Kanten, Agar is a product derived from Gracilaria (Gelidium species) a bright red sea vegetable with the botanical name of Gleidium purpurascens.

Who gives a shit?

You do.

Why?

Because it has NO CALORIES (no carbs, no sugar, no fat), and is made almost entirely of fiber.

Tell me everything!

It is odorless and tasteless and can be added to drinks, soups, and sauces as a thickener. Want to feel full, or make a liquid meal last longer in your tummy? Just add some Agar! It is also possible to buy empty gel caps and keep some on hand in pill form to keep hunger under control, though it may take a few.

When ingested, Agar satisfies your hunger by quickly absorbing water in the stomach to make you feel full. Even in small amounts, Agar can help you feel fuller for longer and more content as it slows down the glucose absorption in the intestine, which reduces your calorie intake. This makes it a great way to balance nutrition and beauty.

When eaten with other foods, Agar actually absorbs glucose (sugars) in the stomach. The mixture goes easily into the intestine, but the Agar only releases the sugars slowly so there is less of a spike in blood sugar. Your body will be less likely to retain or store excess fat as a result.

Agar is so rich in dietary fiber that it keeps the digestive system healthy and moving. That's right girls and guys, better, regular BMs.

One last miracle... Bile acid is released into the body as cholesterol is dissolved, then more cholesterol dissolves to REPLACE the bile acid. Agar absorbs the bile acid so that less cholesterol needs to be released into the body, potentially decreasing unhealthy cholesterol levels.

Agar or Kanten is often found in Japanese food, and can be ordered online or purchased at Asian markets.

OMG Yay! I won't feel hungry! It has lots of fiber! And no cals!! Now I heart Agar too!
